Dr. Nan Ratner
Title:
Professor and Chairman
Department:
Hearing and Speech Sciences
Biography:
I enjoy teaching, clinical interaction and research that involves normal communication development in children and a variety of communication disorders that affect both adults and children.
What have you learned from Maryland students?:
They are diverse, hard-working and fun to interact with. I have taught in many other universities, but enjoy Maryland students the best.
What do you like best about Maryland?:
It is a large, diverse University with so much to offer; fortunately, I also work in a very small department. So, for me and my students, we get the best of both worlds - a large state university with all its excitement and resources, and a small, rather cozy department where students and faculty can really get to know one another well.
What have you learned from working at a university with a diverse community?:
Each year, I meet students and faculty who represent new and different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. It has definitely broadened me.
What advice would you give to a prospective student?:
This is a great place to come - there is something for everyone here, and if you don't know what you are looking for, this is a great place to explore.
