Dr. Cynthia Moss
Department:
Psychology and Institute for Systems Research
Biography:
My background is in Experimental Psychology, and I work closely with Biologists and Engineers. In my lab, we study perception and memory of space, using the echolocating bat as a model system. The bat produces high frequency vocalizations, which return echoes from objects in the environment. The bat's auditory system analyzes the features of reflected echoes to build "pictures" of the world with sound. Using a variety of experimental approaches, we attempt to understand how information from the environment is processed to build "acoustic pictures" and how sensory signals are used to guide movement.
