Freshman Application Checklist

You can relax after you submit all of the following items in your application package to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions:

1. The completed online application for undergraduate admission, due by Nov. 1 for best consideration for the fall semester. All additional application materials should be postmarked by the appropriate deadline. This includes two essays and your responses to the short-answer questions.

2. A nonrefundable application fee of $65, sent with your application. If you apply on the Web, you may pay online with a credit card (we accept Visa, MasterCard and Discover) or be billed by the university separately. Our website is protected by Verisign. You may also mail your nonrefundable application fee (payable to the University of Maryland). Your name and birth date must be on the check. Sorry, we cannot honor debit cards or cash.

3. An official copy of your current high school transcript, sent directly from your school.

International students: Secondary school transcripts should be sent in the native language with a certified English translation.

4. Letters of recommendation from your school counselor and a teacher. You are strongly encouraged to designate a teacher and school counselor to recommend you within the online application.

5. All official standardized test scores, sent directly by the Educational Testing Service (SAT code for Maryland is 5814) or the ACT Program (ACT code for Maryland is 1746). We use the highest subscores from the SAT and ACT in our review of your application.

International students: If neither the SAT nor the ACT is available in your country, submit a written request for a waiver of this requirement with your application. Applicants who don’t submit some form of official standardized testing may be at a competitive disadvantage.

6. An official copy of your college transcripts, if you have completed any course work, sent directly from the institution.

International students: Official transcripts must be sent by those institutions in the native language with certified English translations.

7. An activities and awards list or resume detailing your community, arts, leadership, athletic, family involvements, work experience and other extracurricular activities and hobbies in order of interest to you.

Students seeking enrollment into the School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation must submit a specific drawing in addition to the other required application materials.

Student seeking enrollment as a music performance major must submit the online application supplement and complete an audition in addition to the other required application materials.

International applicants must submit additional application materials and should review the international applicant guidelines.
