Admitted Fall Transfer Checklist

Congratulations on your admission to the University of Maryland! Your academic achievement, extracurricular involvement and diverse experiences make you a great fit for the university.

As you review your next steps and confirm your enrollment, you can view answers to commonly asked questions about your admissions decision here. We know you have a lot to consider, but the information below will help you take the steps you need to join the Maryland family.

1. Keep up the good work!

It is our expectation that you maintain your current level of academic performance. In addition, the university requires you to update the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, should you have disciplinary or criminal action taken against you between the time you submitted your application and the start of classes. If this is the case, please email applymaryland@umd.edu with the subject line "Disciplinary Update". Any significant changes in either of the above could result in the reassessment of your admission decision.

2. Review your letter of admission in MyCoalition

You have likely landed on this page from your admission letter. Be sure to keep it handy. It includes important information about your semester of admission, major, advising college and residency status for tuition purposes. If you have not yet seen your letter, login to your MyCoalition account, proceed to the University of Maryland section on the Colleges list and click on View Decision Letter.

3. Plan a campus visit

Now that you’ve been admitted, take a campus tour or attend a campus event to learn about life as a Terp.

4. Respond to your offer of admission & submit your $400 enrollment deposit

Please let us know your answer to this offer of admission by completing the Decision Response located on your MyCoalition Checklist.

If your answer is YES, and we hope it is, you will need to submit your enrollment deposit which must be done through your MyCoalition account. This nonrefundable $400 enrollment deposit will reserve your place in the incoming class and will be applied to your tuition. It may take up to 48 business hours for your confirmation to be processed.

5. Acquire your University of Maryland Directory ID

Newly admitted students will be able to acquire their Directory ID approximately one business day after the date of their admission decision. To create your Directory ID, or search for your previously created Directory ID, please go to identity.umd.edu.

After acquiring your Directory ID, you will also need to set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and use both of these in order to complete your Housing and Dining Agreement (required of all students living in residence halls) as well as to access other UMD systems such as student financial aid, register for orientation and courses, and most other student services. More information regarding MFA and how to enroll can be found here. If you need any assistance please contact the Division of Information Technology.

6. Submit additional documents (International students only)

Visit the International Students & Scholar Services (ISSS) website to complete the “New Student To Do List.” International students must submit the following materials to the ISSS office to receive an I-20:

  • Certification of Finances and bank statements that demonstrate support of U.S. $54,872 per year
  • A copy of your passport
  • Student visa
  • Proof of insurance
  • Copy of I-94 arrival/departure record, visa stamp, and current I-20/DS2019 form

7. Learn which of your credits will transfer

Credits you've earned through courses at another institution or through standard exams (such as AP, IB, A/AS Level, and CLEP exams), may count toward your Maryland degree. Submit your most recent transcripts to the address below as soon as your grades are posted so our Transfer Credit Services department may evaluate your transfer credit. To review which of your credits will transfer, create your Directory ID and use it to login to review your unofficial transcript, which will be available roughly 15 business days after you are admitted.

8. Learn about financing your education

From merit scholarships and need-based aid to understanding your payment options, learn how you can finance your education.

9. Housing, Dining and Orientation

After submitting your Decision Response, acquiring your Directory ID and setting up MFA, select a date for your orientation, submit your Housing and Dining Agreement and visit our Enrolled Students page to take care of a few more things to get you ready to join us on campus.

10. Complete your health requirements

In order to keep our campus healthy and safe, we require that all incoming students submit immunization information prior to arrival on campus. In addition, domestic undergraduate students must attest they have health insurance or enroll in the school-sponsored plan by September 15. The insurance attestation or enrollment can occur after you have registered for classes. International students will automatically be enrolled in the school-sponsored plan.
