Rising high school seniors are eligible to participate in MAP and must first be recommended by their school counselor via the MAP Counselor Recommendation Form. Once completed, please return the form to our office through one of the methods listed at the bottom of this page.
The Maryland Ascent Program (MAP) is a program sponsored by the University of Maryland to help selected first-generation college students from Baltimore City and Baltimore County public schools navigate the complex world of college admission. Over a series of sessions in the fall semester, selected students will receive sustained assistance from staff in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and current Maryland students to take their first steps toward a college degree. MAP provides participants, known as Ascent Fellows, educational, motivational, and practical tools modeled after those used by private college counselors.
Ascent Fellows have access to workshops and resources provided by Maryland’s Offices of Undergraduate Admissions and Student Financial Aid. Participation in all workshops is mandatory to be an Ascent Fellow and receive all of the benefits of MAP.
To apply to the Maryland Ascent Program please complete the MAP Application and return it to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions in one of three ways:
